You can’t miss Berto’s restaurant on Cross St with his name emblazoned above the door anda jungle of plants and flowers decorating the entrance. This is a one-off. Berto is Italian and makes his own pizzas, pastas and puddings. It’s all delicious and the prices are very reasonable. It can get busy and there may be a bit of a wait for your food, but it’s worth it for the genial, lively atmosphere.

This lovely pub is owned and run by Merlene and Nigel, the chef. You will receive a friendly welcome, a roaring fire on a cold day, a rustic bar with leather sofas and a sophisticated restaurant. The food, which is also available in the bar, includes tapas, pizzas and main courses, many with an Italian/Spanish twist. Excellent range of local beers and a good selection of wines. Takeaway pizza is also available.

The White Hart Hotel is an old posting house and dates back to 1639. It has a comfy, sofa-filled lounge and large log fire. You can enjoy a meal either in the cosy, intimate bar or in the more formal restaurant. The food is traditional. They also serve cream teas.

The Union Inn is very much a traditional tavern stretching back several centuries. It retains many old features and the atmosphere of past years. Home cooked traditional pub food is available every day and there is a Carvery on Sundays.

Moretonhampstead is the perfect base to explore Dartmoor and the whole of Devon. There is not only Dartmoor on your doorstep but stunning coastlines to the north and south.
Below are examples of things to do in and around Moretonhampstead. There is a small selection of up-to-date leaflets at the property. We have an excellent Information Centre in the town which is in the Central Stores café. Opening times vary. There is also a Visitor Centre at Postbridge.

Walks
Moretonhampstead is an ideal town for walkers to explore the moor. Leaflets detailing nearby walks are available from the town’s Information Centre or the visitor centre in Postbridge.

Cycling
There is an excellent 11km cycle path (Google the Wray Valley Trail) following the old railway line between Moretonhampstead and Bovey Tracey.
